With 2024 Chinese New Year approaching in less than two months, AC by Marriot Penang has planned ahead for the festive period with the launching of its ‘A Feast of Chinese Banquet Flavours’ festive menus. The hotel which opened its doors in Bayan Lepas, Penang in May 2023 is bringing diners on a culinary journey with its Chinese banquet cuisine.
To welcome the Year of the Dragon, the hotel has Chef Ryan Cheow in creating the Chinese New Year 9-course banquet feast. Take your pick from their Prosperity Reunion Set (RM1388++), Fortune Reunion Set (RM1588++) or the Dragon Reunion Set (RM1888++) per table of 10 persons, all featuring seafood, poultry, greens, and sweet dessert accompanied by free flow of Chinese tea.

For a start, expect to toss to the New Year with the auspicious Salmon Yee Sang. The dish with raw fish, shredded veggies, pickles, condiments and sauces is a centerpiece of the banquet. Tossing the ingredients together higher, the more good luck you will enjoy for the New Year!

Continue with the Braised Crab Meat Soup with Scallops which features generous fresh crab and scallops in a flavorful broth. Other dishes include Fried Seabass with XO Sauce, Braised Duck with Special Sauce, Wok-Fried Cereal Butter Prawns, Braised Broccoli with Black Mushroom and Black Moss, and Fragrant Glutinous Rice Wrapped in Lotus Leaf.

Chef Cheow charms us with his take on the Braised Duck dish. The duck is tender imbued with flavors and aromas of spices blended with a hint of sweetness. This was definitely a highlight for me as it was something slightly different and unique in a Chinese New Year banquet menu.

Wrapping up the feast with a little bit of sweetness in the festive menu, which includes the Chilled Mango Mousse with Pearls, and Fried Nian Gao (sticky nian gao between yam and sweet potato)!
