Hygge Dining & Bar @ George Town, Penang Revamped with Chic Parisian Flair
A new chapter of comfort and flavor awaits at revamped Hygge Dining & Bar, Penang!
The next time you visit Hygge Dining & Bar in the heart of George Town, Penang, you will be greeted by a new look. The revamped establishment exuding a chic Parisian flair is offering dining in a modern and cool relaxed vibe. The interior deco leads with light wood and beige to create an airy, expansive space that delivers the comfort. A small section of the aged-brick wall still remains there but no longer dotted with paintings and prints.
In commitment to inclusivity and diverse culinary preferences, the owners are pleased to announce that Hygge is now a pork-free establishment. The menu with an extensive choice of food with bold and varied flavors of Asia, continues to include a host of vegetarian options.
The Chef Tasting Menu is making a triumphant return, and the restaurant embraces the philosophy of remaining true to genuine food. The chefs weaved a narrative of flavor and finesse into every plate prepared with an imaginative edge – and beyond the overused ‘fusion’ label.
Our recent four-course meal offerings started off with a couple of amuse-bouche, from the lighter taste of the Cured Salmon prepared with in-house cured salmon along with crunch of seaweed cracker. This was followed by Pani Puri, a popular Indian street food. Hygge’s variation had the deep-fried hollow puri served with lightly spiced creamy filling of sweet corn.

For starters, there was also a good variety. First served was the familiar Glazed Nasu with cabbage and mushroom xo, followed by Cauliflower and lastly Stuffed Chicken Wing which got the most favorable comments on the table. Cooked over charcoal fire, the Chicken Wing paired well with the accompanied chicken mousse and tamarind mole. The addition of lime juice gave it a good burst of flavors.

For the main course, the is the choice of Aged Duck Breast or Lamb Leg. My plate of Aged Duck Breast with taste resembled to the popular Hakka dish wu tau kau yuk is a testament to skillfulness. The meticulously aged duck meat was prepared with tenderness and the skin with a level of crispiness.

Finally, the dessert arrived – a decadent slice of chocolate ganache tart. Served with salted cream and tasty compote of berries, the tart rounded off the meal nicely.
Before discovering the food, we enjoyed a drink at their neighbouring wine bar Er Yi Tai 二姨太. The owners knocked an opening in the brick wall and connected the bar to the restaurant. The cozy bar occupying both the ground and first floor features plenty wines, whiskies, and cocktails on its menu.
