CP Museum Dim Sum at Pulau Tikus, Penang
Penang is blessed with many dim sum restaurants and one of them is CP Museum Dim Sum. The non-halal restaurant on Jalan D.S Ramanathan, Pulau Tikus, is a whole hub of activity, huge space in an air-conditioned glass enclosure where rows of dining tables huddle together under a roof with wooden tree logs decorating the ceiling.
Recently we paid our first yum cha visit to CP Museum and we had a dim sum meal paired with a pot of hot pu-erh Chinese tea. In between sips of tea, we looked through the provided printed menu which has a regular staple of steamed dim sum, porridge, and noodles.
Dumplings are popular and we ticked off several varieties such as crystal dumplings and shrimp dumplings speckled with orange fish roe.
We also sampled the steamed glutinous rice, along with yam cake, chee cheong fun (rice roll), fish ball, and steamed oyster. CP’s version of steamed glutinous rice features the bold flavors of roast pork, mushroom, and Chinese sausage. Served with Chinese mustard, the glutinous rice dish is a firm favorite.
Then comes the steamed fluffy bao – lotus bao and bbq pork bao. For those looking for something a little more luxurious, do try the abalone big bao. Filled with a delicious savory filling of meat, chicken, mushroom, egg, and a whole abalone, the bao is large enough to feed three. Priced at RM29.90, we do not mind having this little treat every once in a while.
CP Museum Dim Sum has been well received by the locals since its opening. The place starts serving dim sum as early as 7am till about 5pm daily.
