Evans & Tate Wine Dinner @ 2PM, G Kelawai Hotel, Penang
The Evans & Tate Wine Dinner held at 2PM in G Kelawai Hotel in Penang was a beautifully paired wine dinner with some of Margaret Rivers’ premium white and red wines. Present at the event was McWilliam’s Sales Director Asia Pacific, Garrick Harvison, who provided insight of the Evans & Tate brand.
The winery Evans & Tate, named after its founders, produce million bottles of red and white annually. For this wine dinner, Harvison introduced several premium wines:
Evans & Tate Breathing Space Pinot Gris 2017
Evans & Tate Metricup Road Chardonnay 2016
Evans & Tate Redbrook Chardonnay 2014
Evans & Tate Metricup Road Cabernet Merlot 2015
Evans & Tate Metricup Road Shiraz 2014
The evening started with a glass of 2017 Evans & Tate Breathing Space Pinot Gris that has a fun and funky label. “Breathing Space talks to the lifestyle in Margaret River, which is very relaxing with lots of breathing spaces,” said Harvison.
I brought the glass of pinot gris to my lips and was pleased with the choice – round and rich, bursting with pear and apple sweetness. It is an easy white wine to drink and I found myself accepting a second glass.

The first dish of Foie Gras Ravioli was paired with 2016 Evans & Tate Metricup Road Chardonnay. The ravioli with a combination of foie gras and ricotta cheese paired seamlessly with the wine which has youthful green rim, lovely texture and savory elements.

In between sips of the 2014 Evans & Tate Redbrook Chardonnay, we were served with the fish dish. Oven Roasted Halibut with pumpkin barley risotto, grilled portobello mushroom, and asparagus spear; the fish drizzled with scented oil was fresh and juicy.

We then moved on to the two reds for the evening – 2015 Evans & Tate Metricup Road Cabernet Merlot and the 2014 Evans & Tate Metricup Road Shiraz. One can easily fall in love with the lovely floral and subtle earthy aromas of the Metricup Road Shiraz which has a youthful purple rim.

The main course was the Grilled Angus Beef Tenderloin. The dish provided sweet potato fondant, greens, dark cherry vine tomato, and was served with beef jus and delicate marrow butter.
The dining experience was complemented with 2PM Lounge’s Chocolate Nutmeg. The dessert with nutmeg hazelnut dacquoise layered with milk feuillantine, and chocolate mousseline in a golden dusted chocolate shell is a culmination of all chocolate fantasies.
Everyone enjoyed the night-in with food paired nicely with Evans & Tate Australian wines. Distributed in Malaysia by Asiaeuro Wines & Spirits Sdn Bhd, the wines are available at Vino Vino Bistro Penang.
