Chinese New Year Buffet-Style Reunion Dinner @DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Penang
I first wrote about DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Penang back in 2015 when Hilton Worldwide announced that it will open the country’s first DoubleTree Resort in Penang.
After undergoing an extensive refurbishment, the resort welcomes the Chinese New Year festivity for the first time in 2018 with buffet-style reunion dinner and hi-tea at its Makan Kitchen. The restaurant with a large dining area on the lower ground floor of the resort is a pretty casual and relaxing spot.
The restaurant will be serving buffet dinner choices with dishes symbolizing prosperity, abundance, and good luck. There are several dining experience you might want to consider:

Revel in the feast with classic dishes such as prosperity salmon yee sang, emperor eight treasure Chinese broth, slow braised duck with chestnut, steamed fish with fine soy sauce, and wok-fried prawn with golden egg yolk & curry leaves.
The sight of the prosperity salmon yee sang is a colorful feast for the eyes. Prepared with crunchy condiments, raw fish slices, sweetness and refreshing sourness of lime and pickled vegetables, the dish offers layers of blissful flavors. Toss all the ingredients together in hope of prosperity and abundance.
For soup, the delicate emperor eight treasure Chinese broth is dominated by the flavors of many ingredients such as mushrooms, fish maw, and chicken. A splash of black vinegar does bring out the flavors.
The dish of braised Chinese cabbage offers a good dose of vegetables in oyster sauce. Savor a little bit of everything, from carrot, Chinese cabbage and broccoli to fresh mushrooms, dried oysters and black sea moss.
The slow braised duck with chestnut had the intense richness of spices, and accompaniment to this dish is a plate of assorted mushrooms and asparagus. The combination is pretty enjoyable, making the poultry dish into something special.
The steamed fish with fine soy sauce topped with ginger olive dressing, and the wok-fried prawn with golden egg yolk & curry leaves, will make the perfect dishes for seafood lovers. The latter is simply delish with its rich coating of egg yolk and fragrant curry leaves.

Desserts are a necessary dish to conclude the Chinese New Year buffet meal. There are the cream puff petit fours and lotus paste pancake among many others. The cream puff petit fours is a pleasant surprise. Not overly sweet, the puffs are perfect-sized nibble to end the meal.
