BY CK Lam
For diners looking to indulge in a barbecue dinner, you might want to pay a visit to The Royal Bintang Penang. This new 4-star hotel located in the core zone of the UNESCO Heritage site in George Town, Penang has launched the Friday Night Poolside BBQ Buffet Dinner with exciting grilled delights.
Perched on the second floor of this colonial building, the barbecue spot has alfresco seating and view of the pool.
The buffet spread offers salads, appetizers, hearty and light dishes as well as grilled offerings including the marinated beef with black pepper, rosemary mint lamb, chicken tandoori, lamb cutlet, tandoori seafood burger, chicken tikka, grilled tenggiri teriyaki and oriental spices fish kotta.
Load up the plate with meat specialties such as the minute beef tenderloin and the lamb cutlet. The pieces of meat are seasoned well and delicious too, but even more so when dipped in the delectable mint sauce and lamb gravy.

Apart from the lamb and beef, there is also the chicken tandoori. Prepared with nice char and aroma of fresh spices, the meat however turned out a bit dry.
There is a selection of skewers, including beef satay, chicken satay and the tandoori seafood burger which is a medley of prawns, mussels, onions, with red and green pepper.
The tandoori seafood burger is delicious on its own while the satay is best to go with the slightly spicy home-made peanut sauce.
Pair the flame-cooked meat and seafood with sides. There is the fresh crisp greens, stuffed tofu (tauhu sumbat), grilled capsicum, corn and cold seafood along with a range of scrumptious dressings and dips.
The dressings are given much attention, with a wide range of variety. A standout dip is the smoky and creamy babbaganous.
In addition, the menu also highlights dishes cooked in many ways like buttered garden vegetables, assorted sausages, fried chicken and pan-fried potatoes with ratatouille. The assorted sausages has a colorful mix of sausages prepared with chopped capsicum, onions and a satisfying home-made black pepper sauce.

The beverage counter serves up hot coffee and tea to go with the colourful desserts prepared with myriad of flavours and textures.
Besides the chocolate mousse, baked cheesecake, mini creme brulee and cream puffs, there is also an array of Malay and Nyonya kuih muih. The chocolate mousse is fine for a chocoholic.
The Friday Night Poolside BBQ Buffet Dinner starts from 7pm till 10pm every Friday, from January until March 2015. It is priced at RM83+ per adult and RM40+ per child and senior citizen aged 60 and above.
While the buffet might not feature a wide variety of dishes, the selection of meat and seafood popping over the fire satisfies most palates.
