Travel for Food in Kuala Lumpur 2013 – Part 2

Traveling is also part of discovering new eating places. This second part of my Kuala Lumpur food article continues with many more interesting dining places.

It is an absolutely great meaty meal at El Cerdo located on Changkat Bukit Bintang. Together with some friends, we sampled El Cerdo’s notable dish of suckling pig and other dishes like Iberico ribs, sausage platter and seafood paella.

The half size piglet is priced at RM188. The waiter gestured us to cut the piglet with a plate. Not only is it a memorable experience for us but the food also delighted our taste buds. The suckling piglet done with amazingly crispy skin and soft meat with melting fat had everyone asking for seconds.

Among the choices of desserts, we had the raspberry sherbet and the rum and raisin ice cream. The latter is far better of the two.

Zac & Mummy

Dining in Mid Valley is very convenient with its plenty cafes and restaurants. Alexis Bistro & Wine Bar is a convenient place for meal and dessert. The desserts are better than the food. We particularly like the tiramisu cake. Try it and you will taste the difference.

Nyonya Colours at Mid Valley is one of the better places where we enjoy local kuih-muih, tidbits and local beverages. The place is not purely for the sweet tooth as they do serve noodles and packets of nasi lemak.

Lunch time meal is exciting at Sin Kiew Yee Restaurant at KL Chinatown. Sitting space is rather small at this restaurant which offers deliciously tempting stir-fried tai loke mee and steamed ‘wan yue’ fish.

Madras Lane in KL Chinatown is the place for those who have particular fondness for Yong Tau Foo. Other food available from the several surrounding stalls include curry mee, assam laksa and chee cheong fun.

To explore more, we travel to Ulu Klang for the well-known beggar chicken. New Heong Kee Beggar’s Chicken is prepared on the spot, at its restaurant located near the National Zoo.

A visit to Fatty Crabs Restaurant in Petaling Jaya is a must for crab lovers. The Sweet and Sour Crab is the signature dish. The sauce with a unique taste is best eaten with toast bread. Other dishes on the menu include steam fish, prawns, satay and deep-fried chicken wings.

It is a filling dinner for the five of us at Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant at Mid Valley which offers Bavarian cuisine. Dishes included the Brozeit Brettl with fresh cold cuts of black forest ham, hunter sausage, smoked chicken ham, obatzda cheese, mild green peppers and gerkins. This platter comes with slices of German bread.

Meng Kee Char Siew at Glenmarie caters for mostly locals. Its signature char siew has been attracting customers. We chose to eat the meat with dried wanton mee. After this meal, we took a slow drive back home to Penang.
