Christmas buffet at Eastin Hotel, Penang

In conjunction with the upcoming Christmas festivities, a group of journalists and bloggers was invited to review classic dishes in the Christmas buffet spread at Swez Brasserie in Eastin Hotel, Penang.
The delectable dishes were mostly prepared by senior sous chef Daniel Tan and included a selection of tempting desserts by pastry chef Franco Ho.
The appetisers offered were the cold-cut platter and crayfish orange salad. The cold cuts consist of beef pepperoni, chicken pepperoni, smoked duck, smoked salmon and smoked chicken.

The crayfish orange salad was a refreshing starter and great side dish with its combination of tomatoes, capsicum, oranges and olives.
The soup counter featured wild turkey chowder, a broth with cream corn, carrots and turkey strips.

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the traditional dishes of roast turkey and beef Wellington. The roast turkey is served with traditional Yorkshire pudding, beef demi glace, roast potatoes, assortment of vegetables and two types of sauces – cranberry and turkey gravy.
The beef Wellington was tender, encased in golden brown flaky puff pastry. A thick slice of beef Wellington was served with a beef gravy and capsicum.
Another main dish is the baked crusted salmon with creamy mustard sauce which was a hit with its crispy skin and unique salty tiny pink fish roes.
The dessert counter was enticing. It had classical options like the Christmas Yule log, cookies and pudding with vanilla sauce. The Yule log had a spongy texture and rich chocolate icing.

Swez Brasserie’s Christmas Eve buffet dinner is priced at RM138++ per adult and RM69++ per child. It includes a glass of sparkling wine or mocktail and party pack.
Early birds will also receive a free bottle of wine with a minimum reservation for five persons, and payment made before Dec 18.
On Christmas Day, the high-tea is priced at RM68++ per adult and RM34++ per child. Also worth checking out is the Christmas Day buffet dinner priced at RM80++ per adult and RM40++ per child.
Besides the Christmas meal, diners will have the opportunity to win lucky draw prizes such as Venessa Diamond pearl necklace and hotel stays when they take part ‘Feed the Santa’ and ‘Xmas Trio’ games.
There will also be carol singing by the Eastin Carolers and the hotel’s Christmas mascots — Candy Cane Man, Elf and Snowman — will be making their appearance.
“Throughout next month, the restaurant will be rolling out its international flavours buffet featuring an assortment of premium specialties,” said hotel marketing communications (Marcom) executive Joanne Koay.
