The newly opened Tanah Aina Georgetown Cafe is a fresh take on decadent sweet and savory meals as well as dessert in a cosy space on Jalan Green Hall, Penang. The lady owner Puan Sri Sabrina has opened several outlets across the country before launching her Halal cafe in Penang.
This latest outlet is a welcome dining place that impresses with a splash of colour. An air-well with glass paneling allows lots of sunlight. There is more dining spaces upstairs, and for events and entertaining friends, the private room is the ideal spot.
The food is a melting-pot of local & Western cultures; here you will find soup, salad, spaghetti, lasagna, lamb shank, and chicken chop, besides nasi briyani, nasi lemak, pulut kuning, lontong and cucur udang.
For something local, you can’t go wrong with the pulut kuning, and shared plates of gado-gado (selection of vegetables and crackers) and deep-fried cucur udang (prawn fritters). Tanah Aina’s recipe for the cucur udang is light and crunchy in texture. The pulut kuning dish comes with a trio of homemade sambal. Mix the beef rendang and sambal with the rice, and savor a spoonful of deliciousness.

To accompany the savory dishes, there is a line-up of classic creamy cakes, bubur hitam, churros, and apple crumble which can be accompanied by coffee, local kopi-o, and Turkish coffee besides smoothies and juices.

Made fresh daily in a traditional way, the gorgeous creamy buttercakes cut into squares are designed with various colorful flower buttercream topping. The square serving is rather big and it is best to share. Other recommendations are the assortment of layer cakes.
