Chu Bee Cafe in a renovated heritage building with bright white and green facade along Jalan Masjid in Penang is the place to find warming food and friendly service. Situated just doors away from the well-known Moh Teng Pheow Nyonya Kuih, and Wai Kee Char Siew Rice in Sky Hotel, this newly-opened eatery maintains its status as a house serving a variety of dishes with a taste of home. The flavors are Taiwanese and soy sauce and spices are the most common ingredients in the dishes.

With its soft opening, the menu offers only pork and chicken besides bean curd, egg, soup, and rice in a variety of sets. The lady owner Keren Khor uses premium grade soy sauce and various spices to give more fragrance and complex flavor to the different stews.

The Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice Set comes with sections of braised beancurd and hardboiled egg, salted vegetable, meatballs & pork rib soup, together with a bowl of white rice topped with meat braised in thick sweet savory sauce. A piece of jelly done in the shape of the Nyonya ang koo kuih is included in the set.

Kocha Taiwan Chicken Bento Set is filled with braised beancurd and hardboiled egg, meatball soup, bowl of white rice, and a tender fall-off-the-bone chicken thigh. A piece of jelly done in the shape of the Nyonya ang koo kuih is also included in the set.

If you want a taste of something sweet, do check out the dessert section which offers Western tarts, muffins, pudding, madeleine, and tiramisu. As for madeleine, there is plenty to try – chocolate, lemon poppyseed, salted caramel biscoff, onde-onde, and coffee hazelnut.
We had a piece of Onde Onde Madeleine and were further delighted when we were offered to a free cup of DIY Nespresso coffee.
