Narrow Marrow Cafe @Carnarvon Street, Penang
Placed among the many cafes in Penang, Narrow Marrow is worth visiting. The cafe without a signboard brings its own unique charm and touch as the narrowness cafe on Carnarvon Street in George Town, Penang.
Name Narrow Marrow due to its narrow size, the fully air-conditioned cafe is somewhat squished in a row of two-storey pre-war shophouse featuring high ceiling and a tiny interior. The people behind the cafe seek to preserved old items and hence you will see a number of old toys, books, knick-knacks handicrafts as well as furniture, giving the cafe an inviting 80s feel.
The menu is based around some savory items available for brunch (except Tuesday and Wednesday), homemade cakes, and drinks. Grab one and order at the counter.
As for cakes, be prepared to be bowled over by a selection of coconut clitoria cheese, john lemon cheese, salted gula melaka, espresso kahlua tiramisu, apple crumble cheese, matcha rum and more. The cakes are rich without being overly sweet.
There is the dirty bourbon tiramisu, and the kahlua tiramisu. The latter with the kahlua coffee-flavored liqueur leaves one with a feeling of contentment. If you want a non-alcoholic version, their chai espresso tiramisu is the answer.
The cafe offers a selection of beverages to complement the food. In addition to freshly brewed coffee, the cafe also serve gryphon tea. For those who is neither a coffee or tea drinker, the chocolate latte is a perfect treat. Plus there is an array of midly sweet alcoholic beverage, toddy (coconut palm wine) that may just tickle your fancy. You may choose whether you want the toddy mojito (fresh mint) or the toddy basito (fresh basil).
Narrow Marrow Cafe has been around for a few years and has a lot of devoted fans coming back for food in an environment that they feel comfortable. The cafe opens daily (except Wednesday) from 10am till late 1am.
