A New Facelift for G Hotel Gurney, Penang

G Hotel Gurney, which is very much in the heart of bustling Gurney Drive in Penang, has recently unveiled a new facelift after completing a RM35 million makeover. The renovation resulted in an upgrade to guest comfort, with chic lobby, modern contemporary rooms and suites, amenities, sophisticated meeting rooms and trendy restaurants and bars.
We were hosted at the hotel with a one night stay and an opportunity to visit all the rooms. Checking in was a breeze at the glass lobby which has been furnished with Minotti and Porada designer furniture.

The 312 room hotel offers Deluxe Room, Executive Room, Executive Suite, XL Suite, G Suite, Duplex, and the L Suite. Designed with employing lighting techniques, fabric, colors, and arresting furniture, the rooms come with an atmosphere of surreal comfort.

High-up on the executive floor, our XL Suite with a spacious living room and kitchen is fitted with two bedrooms. The rooms featured premium Serta mattresses draped in smooth white 300 thread count linens, and a pillow menu.
Free high speed WIFI access is available, besides amenities such as coffee maker, micro oven, fridge and washing machine. Non-alcoholic minibar drinks and snacks are complimentary.

The washroom comes with a tub and separate rain shower. I particularly enjoyed the designer eco-friendly Appelles toiletries.
For relaxing and a workout, the 3rd floor is the best place to be. Enjoy a swim in the infinity pool and retreat into the shade of the cabanas with signature cocktails and snacks from the pool bar. The chic and comfortable cabanas features an eclectic mix of settees and chairs.
On the same floor is a hair salon, spa for nourishing the body and soul as well as a 24 hour gymnasium.

Then there is the 15th floor’s Executive Lounge, which provides a quiet setting to while away for breakfast, evening cocktails, coffee and tea. The lounge is only open to residents on the Executive Floors and Suites.
We spent the evening at this non-smoking lounge. Offerings were light, and includes sweet treats, cheeses, tarts and savories of beef balls with black pepper sauce, deep-fried onions, together with endless bubbly champagne, freshly brewed coffee and juices.

After a good night’s rest, we headed for breakfast. We may opt to dine at the Executive Lounge or at Taste Cafe. Since we have already dined at the former, the most obvious place to start the day is at the cafe which was also revamped and reintroduced to guest.
Located on the ground floor of the hotel, the cafe caters for buffet breakfast with local and international healthy food choices from 6am till 10.30am.
Besides the usual Western offerings, there are also plenty of local items to choose. The likes of nasi lemak (fragrant coconut milk rice), murtabak with chicken curry, dim sum and porridge with condiments are available.

G Hotel Gurney also unveiled five additional conference rooms with facilities for half-day and full-day sessions. We had a glimpse of the rooms with natural daylight, featuring Herman Miller designer work chairs.
Other interesting hangout spots on the ground floor are the G Lounge and al-fresco spot Tree Bar. The latter serves up happy hour deals daily.
Besides that, cross usage and signing facilities are also available for guests to the sister property G Hotel Kelawai which is a buggy ride away.
