Cheese and Wine Tasting @ 2PM, G Hotel Kelawai Penang

2PM at G Hotel Kelawai in Penang was buzzing with guests getting together for a cheese and wine tasting event organized by Asiaeuro Wines & Spirits. Besides the variety of cheeses and wine, there was plenty of other accompaniments of house-made canapes, bread, crackers, nuts and fruits.

Several French and Chilean wines were selected to bring out the best in the cheese choices from France, Switzerland and UK. The Michel Lynch Blanc 2013 and the Michel Lynch Rouge 2012 are both French wines.

Chilean wines served on the night include Cono Sur Bicicleta Gewurztraminer 2014, Cono Sur Bicicleta Pinot Noir 2014 and Errazuriz Estate Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2013.

The taste and texture of the selected cheeses were delectably abundant, ranging from Port Salut, Gorgonzola, Emmental, Smoked Cheddar to White Stilton. It was delightful sampling Port Salut (semi-soft cheese) with Michel Lynch Rouge 2012.

As for my partner, the Smoked Cheese with robust saltiness and the Cono Sur Bicicleta Pinot Noir 2014 with rich red fruit notes made an enjoyable pairing.

On the other hand, the crumbly white Stilton with tangy cranberries was quite addictive too. This fruit blended cheese was paired with the young Cono Sur Bicicleta Gewurztraminer 2014.

The Gorgonzola is one famous soft cheese with piquant flavor. The full-fat cow’s milk cheese went pretty well with bread and bright acidity of the medium bodied Errazuriz Estate Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2013.
