Business is usually bustling at the Hainanese Chicken Rice stall in Kheng Pin Cafe located in the junction of Sri Bahari Road and Penang Road. This stall run by a couple is one of the places with a good rendition of chicken rice in town. The poached chicken is deliciously prepared, a firm smooth skin with a layer of gelatin underneath and tender juicy meat.

The chicken is presented on a bed of sliced cucumber, sprinkled with soy sauce, sesame oil, and garnished with chopped scallions and fresh ginger strips. Fresh ginger strips are hard to come by these days. Together with the chili sauce, they rounded up the meal beautifully.

After eating at the Sri Bahari Road outlet for so many years, I recently found out that the couple’s son has open an outlet in Lorong Selamat, selling equally tasty and smooth poached chicken with flavorful rice. It is great seeing the couple’s son, carrying on the business. The stall is located in Mid Town Cafe which is diagonally across the Char Koay Teow stall at Kafe Heng Huat.

The lunch meal of a plate of de-boned Hainanese chicken drumstick and two plates of rice costs RM9. Every piece of the chicken was just wonderfully tender and moist, and the smooth silky skin was just awesome.

Another lunch meal with chicken and gizzard
Customers will not have to scratch their heads over parking lots as there are a few private carparks in Lorong Selamat. This chicken rice stall is open for business on Sunday, which makes it very convenient for most office workers.
